Keep Jorge Here
Jorge Labbe came to Hastings from Argentina 16 years ago, and has worked tirelessly for the town's charities and voluntary bodies. Many will know him for his voluntary work at Chapel Park Community Centre (CPCC).
Jorge’s visa lapsed and he became what is known as an “overstayer”. At an Immigration Tribunal in February, the judge ruled in favour of Jorge staying in the UK. But this ruling was challenged by the Home Office and overruled at a second hearing in June. So the current situation is that Jorge has to leave the UK. However, due to a possible flaw in that second judgment there is a chance we can turn the decision at a third and final appeal. This requires us to enlist a barrister, who has already been selected, and whose fee is £3000.
So, our target is to raise £3000 to try to keep a decent local man and friend of Hastings & St Leonards here amongst us.
If Jorge has helped you or your charity or your friends, now is the time for us to help him, to keep him with us in Hastings where he wishes to stay.
We need to raise the money as soon as possible as the case may suddenly be heard. Please make a contribution, forward this to others, and consider a way your work or your charity could raise a contribution.
